A cottage, a cup of tea, and a reminder you might need today

Jun 26, 2025

Ducks, tea, mud, and the kind of peace we forget to crave

Hello, my wonderful Flower Ballerina 🌸!

I’m writing this from a little wooden table in a cozy cottage in the middle of East Sussex.

Outside the window, the morning light is soft and golden, warming the fields just after a gentle rain.

The grass is glistening. A few curious ducks wander near the fence. Somewhere close, a horse trots by. The sound rhythmic and grounding and the only other thing you hear is birdsong, weaving gently through the air.

There’s a steaming cup of tea in front of me, earthy and floral. The mug warms my hands. And everything here, everything, feels like it’s been created to make you breathe deeper.

We’re staying at a friend’s B&B called The Cottage at Oak Tree Lodge. Denise built it with love, and you can feel that in every tiny detail.
The fluffy towels.
The bed that wraps you in stillness.
The kitchen so carefully stocked it makes cooking a joy again.
Even the way the doors open to the quiet outside, as if inviting you to just be for a while.

Yesterday we took a walk through the nearby woods, shoes a little muddy, cheeks pink from the sun and wind.
(Yup, UK is surprising us too with the weather).

The forest floor was damp but soft underfoot, and the trees arched overhead like cathedral walls.

We didn’t rush. We just walked. Talked. Paused. Breathed.

Later, we helped our friend Denise set up her Instagram account! Her very first post!  She told us:

“I created the place I always dreamed of staying in.”

And something inside me softened.
Because isn’t that what we’re all quietly longing for?

Not more noise. Not more pressure.
But space. Care. A soft place to land.

So I wanted to ask you something. Just for reflection:

✨ If your life were a cottage in the countryside…

What would it look like?
What would your days feel like?

What would you choose to build into it, if you were designing it for calm, beauty, and joy, not productivity?

Write it down if you’d like. Or just think about it on your next walk.

You don’t need to escape to a cottage in the woods to feel peace.
Sometimes it starts with a warm cup, a long exhale, or a few graceful dance steps through the kitchen.

Love,
Alessia 💕
